Comment: I fish the Combahee River a lot. There is a good public landing just north of Yemasee off of Hwy 17A/21. I have caught bass, catfish, spottails, bream and stripers. This is a tidal river and at low tide it can be very shallow in spots. The water is deep enough though for a full sized bass boat. You just have to be aware of the obstructions and the flow of the river. Deep water is on the outside of the turns. Bass fishing is a challenge until you learn their movements in relation to the tides. Have caught bass up to 3lbs but most are small. Spottails are good closer to the Hwy17/Steel Bridge landing. Cuckholds creek, just upstream from Steel Bridge is a good place for spots. Fish wooded banks and cuts with a jig or swimbaits.
